The Bright Medical Centre is located at 115 Gavan Street, Bright, Victoria, and services the Bright district as well as Mount Hotham during the winter season. Established in 1987, Bright Medical Centre has provided continuous medical care to Bright and district for more than 25 years. We have 6 GPs (2 female and 4 male) who have been with us for a combined service of more than 50 years.

After Hours & Emergency

If you require medical treatment outside of our opening hours, please attend Alpine Health Bright (the Bright Hospital) where you will be assessed by the nurses at the hospital. If a doctor is required, the doctor on-call will be contacted. If it is an emergency please call 000 for an ambulance.

Please be aware that urgent care treatment at Bright Hospital is not free. The current fee for a call-out is $200 (Medicare will cover $129.80 of this fee) 

 

Appointments

Consultation is by appointment only - urgent cases will be seen on the day. Please call us to book an appointment.

Home visits can also be arranged. If you wish your doctor to make a home visit, please call the surgery first thing in the morning.
 
 

Billing Arrangements

Your account must be settled at the time of your consultation. 
Consultation fees range from $64 to $112, depending on duration and complexity.
If an account is not paid in full at the time of consultation, we may add up to $21 in account fees.
Higher fees apply at weekends, public holidays and after-hours.

Payment can be made by cash, VISA/Mastercard and EFTPOS. Cheques only by prior arrangement.
 
Accounts which are unpaid at 90 days will be forwarded to our debt collection agency and additional charges will be added to your invoice. Please ensure you pay your account in a timely fashion.

We would like to hear about your concerns, complaints or suggestions. Please feel free to talk to your GP or the Practice Manager (Gill Jones, 5750 1000) regarding any issues. If you are not satisified with our response, or if you wish to make an external complaint, you can contact the Health Services Commissioner, Complaints and Information on 8601 5200.

Referrals

Doctors in this practice are skilled at handling many common health problems. When necessary, they may seek an  opinion from visiting specialists. You can discuss this openly with your doctor, including any potential out of pocket expenses. 

Privacy and your files

Our front desk staff will be able to give you a copy of your results where the doctor has filed the result, indicating no further action. We charge 20c per page and all of the money collected is donated to Planet Ark as part of our environmental policy.

For those results where your doctor has requested a follow up appointment, you may ask your doctor for a copy at that time. It is our practice policy not to provide copies of these results over the counter, until you have attended your follow up appointment.

There are some very limited circumstances where we can refuse access to your results, if we believe that seeing them may endanger your life or that of someone else. This would be a very unusual circumstance.

In summary, you are entitled to receive copies of every piece of information which we hold about you.  

Reminder System

Because our practice is committed to preventitive care, we may send you an occasional reminder regarding health services appropriate to your care. If you wish to opt out of this, please let us know.

This practice has a no smoking policy and smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere in the building.
